EACH LIFE MATTERS: BRANDY GOAT

We welcome our new rescue, Brandy Goat! She is a lovely chestnut brown Nubian goat about 8 years old. She and a companion goat were received by the NHSPCA and adopted by BINA Farm Center of Sudbury in early spring. BINA Farm Center is, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and has an inclusive mission of bringing people together of all ages, those both with and without disabilities, through clinical, therapeutic, and recreational programs that provide equine-assisted services, agricultural, and vocational opportunities.
Unfortunately, her companion had several chronic health issues and was unable to recover despite our best efforts. He passed away in the summer, leaving Brandy without another goat companion.
BINA adopted both goats as companions for one of their horses who experiences severe separation anxiety and cannot be housed with other horses. Since losing her companion goat, Brandy had become increasingly stressed when separated from the horse, particularly when he was being used in lessons. She was lonely without another goat friend, and BINA knew she would best thrive with other goats. They reached out to us in hopes we would be able to accept her.
Brandy stayed in our quarantine setting until we received her biosecurity test results back, clearing her from Johnes, CAE and CLA (serious transmissible diseases). We always work to keep the herd clear of these serious diseases!
Once Brandy joined the goat herd, she stayed apart at first. Slowly she began to get closer to some of the silky goats, and is now spending more time near the larger hay feeders. She will come up to the fence to greet our preschool lead teacher Megan, who has been working on building the relationship. We feel confident she will make close friends with some of the goats as time passes and she gains confidence. We are so happy to have your join us Brandy!
