WHAT IS COMMUNITY?

When you think of the word community, perhaps you think of the folks living in your apartment building or on your street. Maybe a bigger community of your town or neighborhood is your ideal?
Or could community be the people you meet virtually with some common ground of belief or actions?
At Unity Farm Sanctuary, we try to build as many aspects of healthy community as we can. We feel that we are stronger together than we are apart. Community could be a love of the natural world and being outdoors, or the satisfaction of volunteering to help others. It can be people who come together united in a common goal to save wildlife, companion animals, or farmed animals.
Recently we opened up a new community here of volunteering and therapeutic visits for veterans and active-duty members of our armed services. And we have welcomed back the community of people who have loved Nirvana Tea House and Cafe in Millis MA when Unity Farm Sanctuary purchased the Cafe in 2025 and reopened in late March.
I enjoy watching Audrey Heifer and her herd form a community of bovine best buddies. It makes them content, fulfilled, and gives them a feeling of safety. I know that humans also truly thrive when we can meet each other across our divides, and also try to build compassionate community.
Start with Kindness.
