WHAT'S UP, SWEETIE?

The years have truly passed in the blink of an eye it seems. Our beautiful Welsh Pony, Sweetie, has been with us since 2017, and she will be 30 years old this December.

We have been working closely with our vet team at Ocean State Equine because she has not kept up her weight the past 6 months. Her teeth have been checked out as healthy, and her senior food has been increased. Blood work followups will happen next week.

And recently we discovered she is not getting REM or deep sleep, because she has had episodes of "sleep crashing" that make her start to fall (or actually fall) when she deeply falls asleep while standing. Horses doze for 3-4 hours a day while standing, but need to lay down for some deep sleep for at least 30 minutes daily.

We have moved her to the Run Around Paddock with Ripley Pony, and put Dory and Squirt Ponies up in the Hiltop Paddock (where Sweetie had been living since the passing of Pony Boy.)

We will keep you all posted on her progress! Right now, we are happy to see Ripley is being very respectful of Sweetie.

Thank you to eveny single supporter and donor of the Sanctuary for your love and help. You make it possible for us to do the work we do with the rescues!
